Shawna N. A. Pinkerton
Shawna Pinkerton is a lifelong resident of Charleston, West Virginia. She is married and has two children, two grandchildren, and two fur babies.
She is a 1993 graduate of Marshall University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She later graduated from Capital University Law School in 1997. She returned home to her beloved mountains immediately upon graduation.
Since graduation, Shawna has worked as a registered nurse and lawyer. During Covid, she returned to the hospital full time to help patients and their families battle this virus.
Shawna has been a registered nurse for 32 years and a lawyer for 28 years. As a nurse, she has utilized her skills on vascular, orthopedic, pulmonary, and telemetry floors. She has functioned as a charge nurse and member of the Nursing Shared Governance Counsel. She also received the Nurse Excellence Award and is a member of the National Nursing Honor Society, Sigma Theta Tau. She is a member of the West Virginia Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association.
She joined Stephen New & Associates in 2025, with the goal to help ensure that our state residents get the justice they deserve when they have suffered at the hands of someone else’s negligence. Whether it be an individual involved in a car wreck, a workplace injury, exposure to toxic chemicals in the workplace, or medical negligence, she works hard to get her clients the best possible results.
Her legal career has focused on insurance defense litigation, mass toxic tort, and medical malpractice. Of note, she was the sole managing attorney for GEICO in West Virginia for ten years. She has handled asbestos/mesothelioma, and lung cancer cases related to this exposure. She was a sole practitioner prior to joining Mr. New. Shawna is a member of the West Virginia Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Her defense background brings a new perspective when representing the clients at Stephen New & Associate.
In her spare time, Shawna enjoys attending church at Bible Center in Charleston, cooking, and spending time with her family.
She knows what the citizens of our state value and will work hard for you.
